Coursera上值得推荐的神经科学课程

这几年在网上与人的交流中,我看到过很多对脑科学(神经科学/心理学/认知科学)感兴趣的人。除了一些只是嘴上说说的人,其实有很多是真的感兴趣,读了很多书,甚至经常看看专业的杂志和文章。他们有了很多的知识积累,可以与专业人士谈论较为专业的话题,但交流过程中,往往会发现他们与专业的研究者有所不同。

最主要的不同之处在于,一是他们说的内容通常是这些书或文章里的结论,二是他们通常对自己所说的内容充满自信。而专业的研究人员,一般会更注重一个研究的data和figure,以及这些data和figure能不能导出这些结论;另外研究越多发现自己所知越少,往往不敢下肯定的结论,比较能肯定的,是自己多次重复的data,以及自己实验室多年积累下来、经过反复验证的data。

在我看来,只注重结论,恰恰最容易被媒体甚至研究者本身误导。如果把知识体系比作一栋楼,结论只是这栋楼的墙面,基础知识是地基,实验和数据是框架。没有地基和框架,谈结论只是空中楼阁。

因此我经常建议真正对脑科学感兴趣的人,放下那些畅销书、甚至是名家著作,沉下心来好好看一本教科书,用不了多长时间,就能对那些书和文章有更深刻的理解,也对脑科学的这些领域有更深刻的理解。

当然,随着MOOCs的流行,现在有更灵活、更简便、也更高效的方法去学习基础知识,那就是找一门网络的专业课来上。 继上次介绍完Coursera上的fMRI课程哈佛的免费在线神经科学基础课程,以及Duke的医学神经科学以后,不断有人问还有哪些课程值得推荐。现在基于我自己和身边人的经验 ,把一些Coursera上的神经科学相关课程推荐给大家。将来会介绍edX上的课程。如果大家有什么好的建议,也欢迎在这里或微博,或微信公众号(过几天才开放呢……)留言告诉我,我把它们补充在这里。

Duke: Medical Neuroscience

Explore the structure and function of the human central nervous system. Learn why knowledge of human neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neural plasticity, and new discovery in the brain sciences matters for clinical practice in the health professions.

Harvard: THE FUNDAMENTALS OF NEUROSCIENCE(非Coursera)

The first is MCB80x (Molecular and Cellular Biology 80x), which is a free online introductory course is neuroscience offered by Harvard's online education initative, HarvardX. It inherits its name from MCB80, a longstanding intro to neuroscience course at Harvard, and it loosely follows the topics covered in the on campus version (the "x" on the end designates that it's an online course). Anyone can take MCB80x, and many thousands of students have either sampled the course materials, or taken an exam to receive a certificate of completion.

Hebrew University of Jerusalem : Synapses, Neurons and Brains

These are very unique times for brain research. The aperitif for the course will thus highlight the present “brain-excitements” worldwide. You will then become intimately acquainted with the operational principles of neuronal “life-ware” (synapses, neurons and the networks that they form) and consequently, on how neurons behave as computational microchips and how they plastically and constantly change  - a process that underlies learning and memory. Recent heroic attempts to realistically simulate large cortical networks in the computer will be highlighted (e.g., “the Blue Brain Project”) and processes related to perception, cognition and emotions in the brain will be discussed. For dessert we will deliberate on the future of brain research, including the questions of “brain and art”, consciousness and free will.
